What happened, WCPO?

For the vast majority of my life, I have been extremely partial to WCPO. I have gone to WCPO for any and all stories, local, national, and global. When abroad, I would check in on WCPO to see what was going on back home. I went to WCPO on 9/11. Weather? That was always 100% WCPO. Then something happened... This "Insider" racket is the single biggest letdown I could have imagined. Everything that made WCPO great was now only available to those willing to pay for it. And Im not one of those people. I enjoy tradition and sticking with what I know, but I am not going to pay money to a few enticing stories I can find elsewhere and then a TON of content which is barely even worthy of a click on a free website, much less worth any money on a LOCAL NEWS website. The time the powers to be decided to make the "Signs to watch for in teens for suicidal behavior" or however it was worded a PAID article- every single last bit of respect was lost. Im guessing its expensive to keep that overpriced Bell helicopter flying (should have gone with a Robinson), so its up to the faithful and devoted WCPO readers to foot the bill. I hope they enjoy it, but count me out. Oh- the ads in this app are panic inducing annoying. I KNOW YOU HAVE A HELICOPTER BECAUSE IT HOVERS OVER MY HOUSE ALL THE TIME AND I KNOW YOU HAVE A MORNING SHOW BECAUSE EVERYONE DOES!!! WHY DO YOU THINK I GOT THIS APP?! BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER SEEN A MORNING NEWS SHOW?! Knock it off!!!!

Guess they had to use trolls to raise their rating...

Well I guess you can tell how "great" the app is and the fact you have to pay for a lot of stories you can find elsewhere for free. 11 five-star reviews all on the same day huh? I guess they realized it looked bad, so one the day after. The app works fine as long as you only like reading half a story before it says you have to pay to read the rest.

Stupid login

I shouldnt have to pay to read your news OR watch the videos your crews take from their phones. #dontwasteyourmoney

Paying for the news

I hate to break it to you WCPO but most of the stories you want us to pay for are available with other news outlets. For example, you currently have a story about the science behind mudslides (that you want us to pay for). Guess what, WLWTs app has pretty much the same exact story... for free. Ive unfriended you on Facebook, now Im deleting your app.

Wow...$7.99 a month for local news?

I normally dont write reviews but I think its ridiculous that they are asking me to pay $7.99 a month for local news. I think I will stick with the other local news outlets.

New version does not work

New version does not work

insider?

You want me to pay to read your articles?? App deleted, if anyone is looking for good news content in the Cincinnati area check out WLWT

Subscription

I need a subscription now to read the news! Well, I will be deleting this app and downloading the 12 wkrc app.

This app is not free

This app will show you the headlines of stories but will not allow you to read them unless you purchase a subscription of $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year.

Videos play automatically

Even if youre only trying to read the story. So stupid, if I want to watch the videos Ill hit "Play" myself

I will never pay to read news stories.

I will never pay to read your news stories.

Not Free Any More

I get so sick and tired of this app restricting more and more stories to a paid subscription. Its a complete bait and switch. If I cant read the story, dont put it on the free app period. There are plenty of other free Cincinnati News Apps that I will use instead.

Now we have to pay?

Im deleting this app and moving to Fox 19. What a shame because 9 news was always my favorite. But who wants to pay for content that is already free elsewhere on the internet.

Nope, Not Gonna Register or Pay

Sorry folks but monetizing local TV news is a non-starter. Im not going to register let alone pay for the same news I can get free from other stations. News used to be a public service provided in exchange for the use of the public airwaves. Now its just another corporate money mill.

Its free ...

I love this app, it gives me information about the weather and whats going on in our society ..

WEATHER ALERT!!! But 1st watch this commercial

WEATHER ALERT!!! But 1st watch this commercial... which probably wont play, freezes the app, therefore you cant watch the video about the tornado warning. Suffering through a commercial before being able to view a severe weather alert video? Money before lives. Well done, WCPO.

Will not pay for the news

Shouldnt have to pay for the news. Also the story they did to glorify the man who murdered Officer Kim was disgusting. No longer a viewer.

Asks me to subscribe and wants $$$ for it.

Channel 9...come on...really!!! This app asks me to subscribe at a rate of $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year in order to view certain news stories. I can just watch them for free on TV when the news comes on. The number of these pay to read stories increases everyday. In fact if you look at todays top stories (7/9/15) every single story about the upcoming All Star Game required me to pay in order to read it. Channel 9 knows what people are interested in and those are the articles that they require you to subscribe in order to read. If I wanted to pay for my news Id get the "Enquirer". Guess Ill delete this app and get the apps Channel 12, 5, or 19 instead. Shame on you Channel 9!

Free content better than all others, paid even better

"Regular" local news content is free. These stories are better and more interesting than other local stations (which only seem to report on police activity...). The premium, long-form articles are by subscription. Because I was interested in more in-depth local news and special interest stories, I eventually paid 19.99 for a year during a sale (a subscription to the Washington post online was included). I and my family have been very satisfied with the level of high-quality reporting and stories for the price (much better than standard local news).
